ARTIST'S STATEMENT

This was one of the first things I painted in the spring of 2011 at the culmination of a long and winded relationship. It wasn’t until I finished the painting that I saw it was upside down the entire time!

Perspective is everything; sometimes you just need to zoom out to see that the bigger picture is still in focus. Other times things just need to be flipped on their head. If things were meant to work out differently than they would have, and I wouldn't be painting.

If the trees represent rebirth and finding balance, the proverbial stairs are about moving on & pushing forward.
