Distinguished burnt-like structures in the middle were achieved by dousing this with rubbing alcohol & other flammable household solvents. It was then promptly lit on fire, and quickly extinguished so the flames did not engulf the colors. A variety of inks in addition to metallic pigments were used to create a dynamic pattern.

ARTIST FOOTNOTES

The title is a clear nod to Florence and her machinery, whose song of the same name was playing when I painted this. Often times I'll save a work with a string of words as a placeholder with the intention of changing it, but sometimes the juxtaposition works and sticks. 

Younger artists: please do not light things on fire without proper supervision and / or adequate preparation after reading that I did so with this piece. But never stop experimenting and don't confine your style to a specific box. Sometimes a little bit of household solvents is in order.
